Running Workshops

How Do We Run?

Drummond Clinic is a Newton Running accredited Running School and run workshops for anyone interested in learning how to transition to this form of running.

Natural Running WorkshopClinic Director, Alex Drummond, explains why “when we are in the pool or on a bike we are constantly working on our technical skill base to make a more streamline position and increase output, but more and more it is becoming apparent that this is not being carried over into our running training. Running, however, is probably the single discipline that will develop an injury, ache or an abrupt cessation of training if the technique is poor.”

These workshops redress the balance and scrutinise our running technique, if not just for injury prevention but to increase performance. There are more 5km & 10km races, the transition benchmark from Sprint to Olympic distance is now quickly being attacked by the rise of 70.3 and full ironman distances, highlighting the importance of good fundamental techniques to prevent injury. There is a lot of information in the popular press on Pose & Chi methods of Running; these methods employ the basic principles of how we should run. They highlight and introduce the benefits of mid/fore foot strike running above that of the heel striker.

How and Why Should I Make the Switch?

The running workshops have been designed to take the runner through the journey of transition to efficient mid/forefoot running with an emphasis on running more efficiently, improve your technique, reducing the impact of fatigue and reducing the likelihood of Injury.

The workshop will:

  • Educate you on the benefits of changing your technique
  • Assess your technique and create a pathway for change.
  • Give you a greater understanding of how you move and what muscles are employed whilst running
  • Apply practical application of running on the flat, uphill and downhill
  • Educate you on some of the main conditioning exercises that will assist you to make the switch over and maintain good and injury free running

Runners should note that the transition to forefoot running relies upon a progressive switchover period to allow the body to accommodate to change.

    Testimonial

I would like to thank you for a great workshop. We both found it very interesting and informative. My husband was aware of a difference almost immediately once a couple of corrections to his form had been made. I believe being made aware of my style of running and how to correct and change through the drills we practiced will pay dividends against injury in the long run. Once again thank you. Joanne, Essex.
