Biomechanical Movement Assessment
We all know the benefits that regular exercise can bring to our overall health and wellbeing. However, regular exercise, whether it be running, cycling, power walking, golf or team sport, does bring with it an increased risk of injury.
If you are suffering from pain or an injury it can sometimes be hard to decide how to tackle it. With so many health specialists available how do you know who the best one is to go to.
Biomechanics is the study of the action of external and internal forces on the living body. Our biomechanical assessment can help you to understand existing issues with your body, and therefore enable you to make the right choices. Those suffering from back, knee, hip, foot and ankle pain can often benefit from a biomechanical assessment.
The biomechanical assessment is also the best way to ensure that you have the correct choice of footwear for any activity you undertake. Exercising in the wrong footwear can put your body under strain and you under increased risk of injury. Whether it’s a regular stroll with the dog, running a marathon, cycling or team sports, the range of footwear available is huge and it is very important to get yourself in the right shoe.
Through a range of specialist disciplines we offer a personalised appraisal of your gait and posture.
Advanced Assessment
The advanced gait assessment offers the most complete analysis and recommendations. We will be able to give you an indepth understanding as to what your biomechanical needs are (i.e. high/low arch, pronating/supinating foot, pelvic stability), the type of sport shoe you may need and any flexibility or strength issues you may have.
The advanced assessment lasts for about an hour and consists of:
- Consultation to take history of injury and current exercise regime
- Video Gait Assessment
- With Shoes on
- Barefoot
- Pressure Plate Assessment
- Full feedback on video & pressure assessments
- Flexibility Assessment
- Programme for change

Basic Assessment
The basic gait assessment is recommended for anyone who just wants a quick check of their footwear and peace of mind that there are no underlying issues with their gait. After the consultation your therapist will conduct a video gait analysis and feedback to you anything that can be determined from this shorter assessment. If any underlying issues are identified your therapist may recommend that you upgrade to the advanced assessment for a more indepth understanding of those issues.
The basic assessment lasts for around 30 minutes.
