20 Questions – Kirsty
- What is your biggest fitness achievement?

I would have to say cycling around New Zealand, although my first triathlon felt like a great achievement too.
- If you could only do one sport for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Skiing.
- What is your favourite toy?
Hmmmm. Probably my motorbike – but as I would struggle to ski on that, maybe my skis.
- What is your next big fitness challenge?
I am doing a charity bike ride from London to Paris this month! I’m taking it very seriously and have been training like mad. I used to be a weekend warrior putting in about 20 miles but I’m currently cycling about 100 miles a week.
- What is your favourite charity?
Ah, good question! I support the lottery every week and make monthly donations to a dog charity, a local cat hospice and a countryside protection project. I would support more if I could. The clinic supports Help for Heroes so any spare money or donations made in the clinic go there. For my cycle challenge I am raising money for Action Medical Research who save and change childrens lives. (Read more about my challenge here).
- How would you distribute your lottery winnings?
I’d give half to my husband for all the times he bailed me out when we were younger. After taking care of my sisters I would like to invest in some conservation and wildlife projects. Then I would retire to Austria to buy lots of toys and ski, bike, hike and generally chill out.
- Who do you most admire?
My husband for putting up with me and his unfoundering willpower.
Herman Maier, Valentino Rossi.
- Describe your relationship with food?
Yummy! I enjoy food and generally eat what I like and use exercise to maintain my weight. I try and eat healthily Monday through Thursday and let my hair down a bit at the weekend.
- Are you in a relationship?
I relate to my husband. We’ve been together since school, about 25 years.
- What bores you?
Politics and religion.
- What inspires you?
Exercise, music, seasons, praise, goals.
- What trainers do you wear?
I run in Asics – Kayano 14.
- Describe yourself in 3 words
Black and white.
- Favourite movie?
One film – impossible – depends on my mood. My Cousin Vinny (watched it more than 30 times). The Bourne Identity, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Green Mile, Duets, Fracture, ….
- Favorite tipple?
Wine. G&T.
- Favourite famous sporting moment
England winning the Rugby World Cup.
Watching Floyd Landis break away in the 2006 Tour de France and going on to win the tour that year(only to be stripped of the title when he was found to be doped up).
- What was your last formal qualification?
In 1926 I gained a BSc Hons in Home Economics from Cardiff University.
- What has been your best overseas trip?
I love Austria with a passion, but I would have to say cycling around New Zealand was a real adventure.
- Do you own a bicycle?
I have a Trek road bike and a GT mountain bike.
- What question to you wish you’d been asked?
